Actually, nowadays - whatever vocation one takes - it doesn't really matter - what matters is that he must excel in what he does. My friend who graduated as an engineer - more as a gift to the parents, then took up culinary pursuits. He is now a very successful chef.
The moral of the story, we should allow our children to follow their interests and dreams - always encourage them to try their best and to access all the information available to them to be the best.
So Family Day is breakfast with my Mother. Ma hasn't been too mobile for last 2 years. Immobility comes suddenly and unexpectedly. Don't take things for granted. Enjoy every moment with our loved ones. I'm lucky my sisters come back to Kuching for whole Summer or winter break - after my father's passing, we know these are precious times.
My husband, Tony, has been a pillar of strength during my busy times. At least we can enjoy some leisure time with friends , jamming or just having a drink & chatting. Talking about chatting - at least it's real human contact.
Problem now is that we tend to interact more with machines eg handphones, PDAs, computer, etc. than talk with friends. You can have a table of 4 friends who were supposed to meet & catch up with each other, but each are talking to other people on their handphones!! We should discipline ourselves to engage with our friends and block off our phones for a few minutes. I'm sure we will find that the friendship will be more meaningful than what we miss on the handphone.
Have a nice Sunday with your loved ones. It'll make their day if you could express your affection to your family - I promise you that will bring you so much satisfaction in return.
